Valley Relics Museum

Valley Relics Museum is a unique museum which features pop cultural artifacts, historic items and other objects from The San Fernando Valley. The museum is situated at Lake Balboa, California The museum is situated in two hangars that were once used for aircrafts in an industrial park adjacent to Van Nuys Airport. The museum is open for guided tours as well as group tours. It also lets the space to private parties. It is also possible to purchase souvenirs, T-shirts and souvenirs at the museum.

In November of 2018 the Valley Relics Museum moved to the new location. The museum was previously located in an old warehouse located on Chatsworth Boulevard. However, the museum has moved to a newer structure within the Lake Balboa area. The larger structure is the home of a huge collection of artifacts from the past. The most impressive exhibits at the museum are old neon signs from iconic So Cal establishments such as Mel’s Diner, Pioneer Chicken, Mustang Liquor, and the Palomino Club. The illuminated signs are part of some of the more than 25000 objects that are part of the museum’s collection.

The museum’s collection includes several Westerns films, as well as objects of the industry. The museum showcases the memorabilia of television shows like The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family as well as Gunsmoke along with signed baseballs, scripts and Telegrams. For those who love movies There is an exhibit devoted to the film of the same name, Bad News Bears.

Valley Relics is the vision of Tommy Gelinas, who started collecting vintage postcards, phone booths as well as BMX bikes in the 1960s. He’s a native San Fernando Valley resident with an interest in collecting and historical research. After many years of collecting Gelinas made the decision to start the museum. The museum was opened in the Chatsworth warehouse that was previously Chatsworth storage facility in 2013 but it soon outgrew the space. The desire to collect led him to relocate the museum to Van Nuys airport in 2018.

While it’s true that the Valley Relics Museum is a relatively new facility however, it has a long tradition. The museum’s founder was an actual San Fernando Valley native who was raised in a home where his family owned an eatery selling hot dogs on La Cienega Boulevard. Since since then, he’s been collecting objects and memorabilia that relate to San Fernando Valley.

The museum’s exhibits are varied and cover everything from historical objects to documents from the past art, paintings, along with neon signposts. The oldest pieces that is in this collection are letters written by Issac Newton Van Nuys who was the proprietor of the southern region of San Fernando Valley. In the early days, the Van Nuys area was named Godfather in LA Times. LA Times. The majority of the objects at the museum are significant documents that relate to important historical incidents.

Valley Relics Museum is a must-see. Valley Relics Museum also features pinball arcades and a retro-themed shop. Apart from an arcade area, it also offers groups and private tours. Visitors can also rent the museum for private events, parties or talks.
